The mission of Spay Panama, founded in 2001 by Patricia Chan, is to reduce the homeless animal population with an intensive low-cost spay and neuter program. Headquartered in a house turned animal hospital in a suburb of Panama City, Spay Panama hosts weekly low-cost spay and neuter clinics. The organization utilizes volunteer veterinarians and veterinarian students to provide spay and neuter using the Quick Spay Method. This includes the veterinarian using a small incision, stainless steel suture, and sterilization at an early age. In this manner a greater number of animals are able to be sterilized and released the same day. Spay Panama also performs “Blitz” campaigns where a team travels to outlying areas to offer the low-cost sterilization service. In addition to the spay and neuter programs, Spay Panama also provides medical care to sick and injured animals.
